ATLANTA – Dasha Potapova, Kelly Anderson, Lyndsay Shosho and Kacie Anson won both singles and doubles matches to lead the Yellow Jacket women’s tennis team against opponents from Florida State and Marshall on day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational, which is being contested at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Potapova and Anson teamed together in doubles action to defeat Florida State’s Tapiwa Marobela and Natalie Tirapelli, 8-5, while Anderson joined Shosho to down the Seminoles’ duo of Miranda Foley and Roxanne Clark, 8-5.
In singles action, van Londen made quick work of Marshall’s Holly Asel, 6-2, 6-2, while Anderson defeated the Thundering Herd’s Ashley Kroh, 6-0, 6-3, and Potapova downed Danielle Hock, 6-0, 6-1. Also recording straight-set singles victories for the Jackets were Kristi Miller (6-2, 6-4 vs. Lille Nzudie) and Anson, who won her match against Jeanne Schwartz, 6-3, 6-4.
Shosho and Alison Silverio each came back to win their singles matches after dropping their first sets to give the Yellow Jackets victories in seven of eight singles matches and two of four doubles matches on the first day of the tournament.
“Overall I thought that it was a good day today and I think that it was fun playing in the format with all the players on the court at one time so that we can experience what it’s going to be like on the court in the spring,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “I think that we learned some things about ourselves in the matches today, and I hope that we can apply those to the matches tomorrow.”
The Georgia Tech Invitational will continue Saturday, beginning with doubles play in the morning. The Yellow Jackets will face Marshall while the Seminoles meet the Maryland Terrapins, all at 10 a.m. In singles action, Georgia Tech meets Maryland at 11:30 a.m. with Florida State and Marshall to follow immediately after the conclusion of the Jackets’ matches.
