GREENSBORO, N.C. – Game times for one-third of the Georgia Tech regular season football schedule were announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference office.
The Yellow Jackets will begin the 2010 season with three early kick-offs. The Sept. 4 season opener against South Carolina State will begin at 1 p.m. and will be available over the internet at ESPN3.com. Tech’s first road game, Sept. 11 at Kansas, will be a noon (ET) start and will be televised regionally by Fox Sports Net. The Sept. 18 ACC opener at North Carolina will also kick-off at noon and will be televised by Raycom.
The other Georgia Tech game time was established earlier this year. The Yellow Jackets’ Nov. 4 ESPN Thursday night game at Virginia Tech will be televised nationally and will begin just after 7:30 p.m.
After the games of Sept. 18, game times and TV will be announced weekly with ESPN/ABC and Raycom Sports making their choices with a 12-day advanced notice, beginning on Monday, Sept. 13 (for games on Saturday, Sept. 25).
The opening three games of the season will be challenging for head coach Paul Johnson’s third Yellow Jacket team. S.C. State captured the MEAC championship last year, won 10 games overall and advanced to the FCS national playoffs. Tech’s game at Kansas – the Yellow Jackets’ first-ever trip to Lawrence, Kan. – will be its first road game against a Big 12 Conference school since 1992 and its first game against the Jayhawks since the 1948 Orange Bowl.
The third week of the season will pit the Yellow Jackets against North Carolina, an ACC Coastal Division rival and a likely pre-season top-25 team.
The first three weeks of the season, 19 games involving ACC teams will be televised, including 10 national exposures.
