Four First-Place Finishes Highlight Yellow Jacket Invite

THE FLATS –Georgia Tech track and field team members Broderick Snoddy, Shawn Roberts, Nikita Kirillov and Jonathan Gardner won their events Saturday to highlight the team’s competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Griffin Track.

Snoddy won the men’s 100 meters with a personal-best time of 10.28. He set another career-best time in the 200 meters, finishing second in 20.70.  

Roberts won the men’s 1,500 meters by almost seven seconds and set a career-best time of 3:45.95. The second-place finisher, Georgia’s Charles Grethen, crossed the line in 3:52.30.

Tech’s Zack Fanelty took third (3:54.20), and the Jackets captured fifth place through eight place and 10th – Chris Burnett (fifth; 3:55.09), Adonis Gaines (sixth; 3:56.70), Patrick Fleming (seventh; 3:57.00), Troy Hayden (eighth; 3:58.21), Nico Metzler (10th; 3:59.16).

Kirillov won the pole vault with a height of 5.27m (17-03.50). Teammate Nathan Daniel took third (4.97, 16-03.50). Samantha Becker took fourth in the women’s pole vault (3.77m; 12-04.50).

Gardner won the triple jump with a mark of 15.54m (51-00.00) and took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.14m (23-05.25). For the women, Julienne McKee took second in the long jump (6.03m; 19-09.50).

Also in the field events, Julia Frederick took seventh with her career-best high jump 1.65m (5-05.00).

On the track, Brandon Lasater, Jeremy Greenwald and Nat Estes finished second, fourth and sixth respectively in the 800 meters. Lasater crossed the line in 1:49.07, Greenwald in a personal-record time of 1:49.97 and Estes finished in 1:51.93.

Morgan Jackson took third in the women’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.04. Jackson also took third in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 2:14.05, more than three seconds faster than her previous best.

Alexander Reese finished fourth in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 48.21.

Ama Larbi set a PR in the 400-meter hurdles and took third in a time of 59.44. For the men, Julian Darden ran his fastest 400-meter hurdles to date with a time of 56.43. Teammate Rockne Burns took fifth in the same event (58.30).

Also in the hurdle events, Spencer Allen took fourth in the 110-hurdles with a PR time of 14.46.

In the relay events, Georgia Tech placed second, third and fifth in the men’s 4×400-meter relay. Reese, Fanelty, Roberts and Lasater took second (3:19.51), while Burns, Chris Burnett, Adonis Gaines and Metzler took third (3:26.59). Patrick Fleming, Cole Jackob, Troy Hayden and Calvin Tirrell placed fifth (3:30.35).

In the first night of action Friday, Laura Nelson placed first for Georgia Tech and eighth overall in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:11.53. On the men’s side, Austen Gutierrez took third in a time of 15:31.53.

Friday night, junior Katie Townsend ran the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays and finished seventh in a time of 35.12.93.
