Former Jacket Eubanks Qualifies for US Open Main Draw

THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech men’s tennis standout Christopher Eubanks (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) earned a spot in the main draw of the 2021 US Open by winning three qualifying matches this week in New York.

Eubanks capped the run to his third US Open appearance by coming from behind to defeat Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(6) on Friday. Eubanks run to the main draw also included a 6-3, 6-2 win over the qualifying round’s No. 3 seed, Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan, in the first round and a 6-3, 6-4 victory over India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the second round.

Eubanks’ third main draw appearance at the US Open will begin on Monday against fellow American Frances Tiafoe in Monday’s first round at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York (Flushing, Queens). The match will not begin before 5 p.m. on Court 17.

An Atlanta native, Eubanks was a two-time All-American and two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year during his three seasons at Georgia Tech (2014-17). He was ranked as high as No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings during his senior season (2016-17) and announced his intention to turn professional in October 2017.

Currently ranked No. 216 in the world, Eubanks also advanced to the main draw of the US Open in 2017 and 2019. This will be his fifth Grand Slam tournament appearance, as he also qualified for the main draw of the Australian Open in 2019 and 2020.
