On offense, the Yellow Jackets aim for efficiency in the option game. On defense, Tech looks to continue building after finishing in the top 30 nationally last year in total defense.

“We’re actually very excited about the quarterback position at Georgia Tech,” said seventh-year head coach Paul Johnson, who has guided the Yellow Jackets to six consecutive bowl games. “I think that sophomore Justin Thomas brings a great skill set to what we want to do offensively, and junior Tim Byerly had a great spring practice. They are both guys that embrace what we do.”

Officially, Georgia Tech returns 11 starters from a team that finished 7-6 in 2013, 5-3 in the Coastal (tied for second) and played in the Music City Bowl.

Tech has played in 17 consecutive bowl games, including the 2010 BCS Orange Bowl, which is the nation’s third-longest streak. The Yellow Jackets’ streak of 19 straight seasons of finishing .500 or better in ACC play is NCAA’s longest active streak.

The 2014 season opener is set for Saturday, August 30 versus Wofford at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
