Five Tech Teams Honored by NCAA for Academic Progress

May 12, 2010

ATLANTA – Five Georgia Tech athletic teams – baseball, golf, volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country — were among the teams recognized nationally Wednesday by the NCAA for their Academic Progress Report (APR) scores.

The NCAA recognized those five teams for ranking in the top 10 percent nationally for APR within their respective sport. The data released by the NCAA includes the past four academic years – from 2005-06 through 2008-09. Each individual team is assigned a grade up to 1,000 for each of those years as well as the past four years combined. Specific scores and additional data for all teams will be released by the NCAA later this year.

“We’re very happy and proud of the five teams recognized for their work in the classroom,” director of athletics Dan Radakovich said. “It’s a tribute to those student-athletes, coaches and staff members.

“We are also pleased with the progress of many of our other teams. When the APR scores are released later this year, we will see that the majority of our teams improved their scores from the previous year.”

For Tech’s baseball, golf and volleyball teams, this marks the second straight year those squads have earned recognition by the NCAA.
