Five Minutes with D'Andre Bell

Jan. 24, 2006

My teammates call me: “Dre.”

Favorite food or meal of all-time: “I love macaroni and cheese and biscuits.”

Favorite musical artist: “Tupac. I like him because although he’s controversial, he’s also inspirational and I look at the positives that come out of his songs. I also love poetry and since many of his songs are based on that, it’s another reason for me to like his music. “

Last movie I rented or watched in the theater: “The last movie I rented was Saw 1 and the one that I last watched at the theaters was Saw 2. They’re both great, scary movies.”

Favorite pro sports team: “I’d have to choose my hometown, the Los Angeles Lakers, especially since Kobe Bryant plays there.”

Team I would like to add to the schedule: “I’d like to play Louisville since Tech lost to them last year in the NCAA tournament, and they also have a great coach in Rick Pitino. I think it’d be a great accomplishment to be able to play and beat them. Another reason I’d want to play them is that they have another guy from California on their team and he and I had a rivalry going while in high school.”

Favorite sport to watch other than basketball: “Football, either college or the NFL.”

Most memorable moment in basketball: “In one game, my coach gave me the green light and I ended up averaging over 30 points per game during that tournament. That’s the point when I finally started getting noticed.”

Best non-athletic talent: “Even though some people don’t always like when I do it, I love to sing and I’m always doing it. I’m also a good dancer.”

Who had the greatest influence on your athletic career? “My grandfather. A lot of what I do is for him, and also my family. He and my parents have been in my corner since day one. He was the one that took me to practices and games, and was always there for me to cheer me on in the stands even when I wasn’t good. Everything I do from school to sports is for him.”

If there was another sport at Tech you could play, what would it be? “I’d probably play football and be a wide receiver. When I was younger, that was my sport, and I was the strongest and fastest at it.”

If you had to exchange wardrobes with someone on the team, whose clothes would you want?Zam Fredrick

If you were forced to give up all your possessions but one, what would it be? “My bible.”

If you could relive any single family outing, what would it be? “Every Fourth of July, my entire family goes to our Uncle Eli’s house and we always have barbecue, crawfish, and the best thing is the unlimited fireworks.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals? “I always try to focus and pray.” What is the best thing about being a college athlete at Tech? “You learn something new every day, and everything you learn will eventually help you later on life.”
