Aug. 27, 2010

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Former Georgia Tech All-American Irina Falconi is one match away from qualifying for the U.S. Open after a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-2 come-from-behind win over No. 10-seeded Anastasia Pivovarova of Russia Friday.

Pivovarova is currently ranked No. 118 in the world and reached the third round of the 2010 French Open.

Falconi opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mona Bartel of Germany.

She will next play No. 25-seeded Stephanie Dubois of Canada in the final round of qualifying on Saturday. The match will begin second on Court 7 after 3:00 p.m. Falconi defeated Dubois in three sets earlier this month at the Vancouver Open.
