TULSA, Okla. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks moves on to the quarterfinals at the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Wake Forest’s qualifier, Christian Seraphim. It marks the first time a Yellow Jacket has advanced to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.
Seraphim jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set. Eubanks responded by taking the next game before tying it up at three games apiece with a 45-0 decision. The pair traded games to bring the score to 4-4 in the first set. Eubanks put on the gas to pull ahead 5-4 before securing the first set with a 6-4 win.
Seraphim struck first in the second set to nab the first game but Eubanks responded by taking the next three, bringing the score to 3-1. The Wake Forest qualifier grabbed the next game but Eubanks pushed his lead back to two with the serve. The pair traded games with Eubanks taking the 5-3 lead. He took the final game off Seraphim’s serve to seal the match, 6-4, 6-3.
The 6-foot-7 All-American hasn’t dropped a set yet during his tournament run in the singles main draw.
The last time Jackets played in a quarterfinals match at the ITA-All American Championships was in 2011 when Juan Spir teamed up with current Georgia Tech men’s tennis volunteer coach Kevin King. The pair played in the finals of the men’s doubles main draw, falling to Ohio State’s No. 3 pair Buchanan and Rola.
