Ertan Selected to Compete at NCAA Women's Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swim and dive’s Deniz Ertan has been selected to compete at the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will be held March 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will serve as the host.

A total of 322 participants, 281 swimmers and 41 divers, will compete at the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Selected divers will be announced on Sunday, March 12 after the Zone Diving Championships.

Ertan qualified in three events; the 1650 free, 500 free and 400 IM. At the 2023 ACC Championships, Ertan was victorious in the 1650, 500 free and broke her own school record in both events. She also qualified for the ‘A’ final of the 400 IM and finished eighth overall in the event.

Ertan has been the standout on the women’s team this season which is impressive since she is only a freshman. She also holds the school record in the 1000 free, 400 IM and holds the ninth-best time in Tech history in the 200 IM.

The freshman is Tech’s first women’s ACC Champion since 2020, the first in a swimming event since 2005 and the first in 1650, 500 free events. In addition, she is the first Jacket to qualify for the NCAA in the 1650 and 500 free since 2008.

Nationally, Ertan ranks fifth (tied) in the women’s 500 free (4:38.04), sixth in the women’s 1650 free (15:55.77) and 24th in the women’s 400 IM (4:09.68).
