THE FLATS – Freshman Deniz Ertan broke the school record in the women’s 1000 free with a time of 9:43.62 as the Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams earned their first road wins of the season on Saturday at UNC Wilmington.
The men’s team defeated UNCW 175-125 and the women outscored the Seahawks 185-115. The women’s team also faced off against Campbell and finished with a 244.5-49.5 winning score.
In addition to her record-breaking win in the 1000 free, Ertan also swam first-place time of 2:14.19 in the 200 breast. The women tallied a total of seven individual wins. In the butterfly events, Zora Ripkova claimed first in the 100 (55.21) and McKenzie Campbell won the 200 with a time of 2:02.42. Clarissa Sabin cruised into first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.34. Astrid Dirkzwager earned a first-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.78.
On the men’s side, Julian Killius shined in the breaststroke. Killius recorded winning times in the 100 (55.71) and 200 breast (2:02.50). Batur Ünlü was Tech’s dominating force in the men’s freestyle events, placing first in the 200 (1:37.02) and 500 (4:27.68). Other winners from Tech were Justin Alderson in the 50 free (21.02), Nils Bognar in the 200 IM (1:51.87), Mert Kilavuz in the 1000 free (9:16.59) and Berke Saka in the 100 back (50.12).
Ruben Lechuga and Anna Bradescu were the standouts for Tech in the diving events, sweeping both the men’s and women’s 1 Meter and 3 Meter dives.
The Jackets claimed victories in both the men’s (3:20.19) and women’s (3:49.62) 400 medley relays.
