ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving program had eight student-athletes named the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic All-Conference Team, which was announced this week by the league office. Junior diver Brandon Makinson is a three-time honoree.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
For the men, Makinson joined freshman Andrew Kosic, sophomore Anton Lagerqvist, freshman Elliott Brockelbank, junior Eric Chiu and freshman Nico van Duijn, while seniors Keren Siebner and Jordan Evans were selected on the women’s side.
“I am very proud of these eight individuals for representing Georgia Tech on the Academic All-Conference Team,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “We place a strong emphasis on academics in our program.”
Makinson, who holds a 3.37 GPA in aerospace engineering, is a three-time honoree to the ACC’s Academic All-Conference Team. Lagerqvist, an industrial engineering major, is on the list for a second-straight year.
Also this season for Tech, aerospace engineering major Heidi Hatteberg was honored with an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship, and the Yellow Jackets’ men’s and women’s programs were each recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association as Scholar All America Teams for the Fall of 2011.
