Sept. 8, 2008
Football standout Jonathan Dwyer and volleyball right-side hitter Brittany Roderick have been named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.
Dwyer, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 43-yard, fourth-quarter run, and ran for 108 yards as the Yellow Jackets came back beat BC 19-16 on Saturday. He rushed for his second-straight 100-yard game of the season, while scoring his third touchdown of the season. His three touchdowns are tied for the conference lead, while he is currently ranked second in the ACC in rushing yards per game (110/game).
Roderick, a junior from Orlando, Fla., helped Georgia Tech to a runner-up finish in the Regency Suites Classic over the weekend. She was one of two Yellow Jackets named to the all-tournament team. Roderick hit .327 while playing all 11 games against SEC foe Arkansas, 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Xavier and 25th-ranked Michigan, who advanced to the NCAA Sweet-16 a year ago. She led Tech to 3-0 victories over the Razorbacks and Musketeers and posted five blocks and 11 kills while hitting .350 in a five-set thriller against the nationally-ranked Wolverines.
