THE FLATS – After topping Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia on the road on Friday, Georgia Tech volleyball freshman Mikaila Dowd was named the ACC co-Freshman of the Week.
Dowd pocketed her 10th double-double of the season against the Cavaliers, tallying 20 kills and 10 digs. Averaging five kills per set, the native of Naperville, Ill., recorded her fifth 20-kill performance of the season. She also finished with a career-high four service aces. With the Jackets trailing 24-21 in the fourth set, Dowd took three-straight points for the Jackets with two kills and an ace to tie the set at 24-24, setting up the Jackets for the eventual victory at 27-25.
The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season this week, traveling to Pittsburgh and Louisville. Tech takes on the Panthers in Pittsburgh, Pa., at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 before heading to Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Nov. 23 for a 5 p.m. match. Both matches will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
