Days, Mason, Nealy Garner ACC Honors

Nov. 10, 2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were among the eight players honored as ACC Players of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. Georgia Tech now has eight ACC weekly honors this season – the most by the Jackets since 2011 (eight).

Senior B-Back Synjyn Days was named Offensive Back of the Week, senior right guard Shaquille Mason was Offensive Lineman of the Week, and senior Quayshawn Nealy was Linebacker of the Week.

The first ACC weekly honor of his career, Days rushed for a career-high 157 yards – his third straight 100-yard rushing game – in Georgia Tech’s 56-23 road win at NC State. Days has set a career high for rushing in each of the last three weeks. The Marietta, Ga., product needs 25 yards to become the 45th 1,000-yard rusher in school history and the second in as many weeks.

Mason earned his second ACC honor of the season. The Columbia, Tenn., native helped pave the way for Tech’s season-high 479 rushing yards against the Wolfpack. The Jackets’ offensive line did not allow a sack and they lost only 10 total yards on 64 rushing attempts. Mason’s number was called as the lead blocker on three rushing TDs – Days’ 53-yard run, and two Tim Byerly QB keepers.

It is Nealy’s third career ACC Linebacker of the Week honor. The Lakeland, Fla., native recorded six tackles, a 43-yard fumble return for a touchdown, and a 71-yard interception return at NC State. Nealy’s scoop-and-score was his fourth career defensive TD and his second this season. His interception return was the longest of his career and eighth interception of his career. Nealy has recorded two takeaways in two of the last three games (two fumble recoveries at Pitt).

Georgia Tech (8-2, 5-2), who has won three straight games, hosts No. 17 Clemson (7-2, 6-1) for its home finale Saturday at noon on ESPN. Great seats for the Tech/Clemson game are still available, including a limited number of lower level seats. To purchase tickets to the game, fans can purchase online at http://buzz.gt/CLEMvsGTtix or by calling 1-888-TECH-TIX.

Saturday’s home finale will also kick off the 14th annual Michael Isenhour Toy Drive, hosted by the Georgia Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB). Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or a monetary gift to the game. Student-athletes will be stationed at every gate entrance to collect all donations.
