THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving held day one its first meet of the season Friday. The White vs. Gold Intrasquad Meet was held at McAuley Aquatic Center and saw the Gold team take a slim, 7-point lead going into Day 2 of the event.
In the 200 free relay, the gold team came out with the win on the women’s side (1:35.39) and the white team came out with the win on the men’s side (1:21.46). McKenzie Campbell came away with the first-place finish in the women’s 200 IM (2:04.07) and Caio Pumputis took home first place in the men’s 200 IM (1:47.36). Defne Tacyildiz secured first place in the women’s 500 free (4:59.56) and Batur Ünlü placed first in the men’s 500 free (4:29.72).
The women’s 100 breaststroke was won by Caludia Butterfield and the men’s 100 breaststroke (1:03.31) and Pumputis touched first in the men’s 100 breaststroke (54.17). In the women’s 200 backstroke Sophie Murphy finished first (2:01.43) and Berke Saka touched first in the men’s 200 backstroke (1:48.33). Zora Ripkova secured first in the women’s 100 free (51.54) and Ünlü finished first in the men’s 100 free (44.65).
Tacyildiz turned in the top time in the women’s 200 fly (1:59.74) and Christian Ferraro placed first in the men’s 200 fly (1:45.67). The last two events of the evening were the 400 medley relay. The white team took the top spot on the women’s side and the gold team took the top spot on the men’s side.
The White vs. Gold Intrasquad meet culminates Saturday. Warm ups start at approximately 7 a.m. with events starting in the 8 o’clock hour in the McAuley Aquatic Center.
