2015 #ACCWSD Day 1 Results

THE FLATS – Day 1 of the 2015 ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship was held Wednesday at the GT Aquatic Center. Through three events, Georgia Tech is in 11th place with 48 points.

Virginia Tech leads the field with 178 points, followed by North Carolina in second with 158 points. Miami (150), Virginia (144) and Notre Dame (141) round out the top five.

During the morning women’s 3-meter diving prelims, junior Shannon Lumbra scored 271.85, good for 17th overall. Sophomore Andrea Demick finished 18th with a final score of 271.35. Freshman Ellen Posch (217.95) finished 36th, freshman Caroline Price (213.90) 39th and freshman Madison Young (188.05) 49th.

In the men’s 1-meter diving prelims in the afternoon, sophomore Brad Homza finished 13th with 299.80, while sophomore Omar Eteiba finished 25th with a score of 251.30.

“I think we’ll be better Thursday morning,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart following Wednesday’s finals. “We got some jitters out of the way. Our team will clear their heads tonight and be ready to go tomorrow. I’m excited to see us compete these next three days.”

Finals of the women’s 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard free relay were held during the evening session. Georgia Tech’s time in the 200 medley relay would have been the second-best time in school history, but the Jackets were disqualified for a false start.

Tech’s 800 free relay team of Chiara Ruiu, Darelle Cowley, Erika Staskevicius and Sarah Williford finished 11th with a time of 7:22.94.
