Daniels, Woods Upgraded to Questionable

Nov. 25, 2004

ATLANTA–As Georgia Tech concludes its preparations for Saturday’s game at seventh-ranked Georgia, injured tailbacks P.J. Daniels and Chris Woods have been upgraded to questionable for the contest.

Tech (6-4, 4-4 ACC) and the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-2 SEC) kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Stadium in Athens in the annual rivalry game, which will be nationally televised on CBS-TV (WGCL Channel 46 in Atlanta). Radio coverage is available on the Georgia Tech-ISP Network, including Atlanta flagship WQXI-AM 790 the Zone as well as WREK-FM 91.1.

Tech head coach Chan Gailey indicated after the Jackets’ Thanksgiving morning workout that Daniels and Woods have a chance to play Saturday. However, even if either or both can play, redshirt freshman Rashaun Grant will make his third straight start. Grant has 400 yards on the season, including 260 in the last three games.

The Jackets, already bowl eligible for the eighth consecutive year, have played their last three games without Daniels, who has been sidelined by a knee injury that he sustained against Virginia Tech. Daniels, the ACC’s leading rusher in 2003 with 1,447 yards, has missed a total of four games this season as well as two other halves. Still, he leads Tech with 582 yards (97.0 per game) and five touchdowns.

Woods took over for Daniels, starting against NC State, but he injured his hamstring early in the contest and has been sidelined since, missing the last two games. The junior has rushed for 275 yards with a team-leading 5.7 yards per carry.
