Daniels & Stokes Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Jan. 5, 2004

Football player P.J. Daniels and women’s basketball standout Fallon Stokes were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 05, 2004.

Daniels, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, ran for 307 yards, the second highest total in school history, and four touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 52-10 rout of Tulsa in the Humanitarian Bowl. Tech’s previous rushing high in a bowl game was 199 yards by Eddie Prokop in the 1944 Sugar Bowl, a 20-18 win over Tulsa, and is the most yards ever recorded in an NCAA bowl game. Daniels had 104 yards at halftime, broke Prokop’s record early in the third quarter and kept going. He scored on runs of 9, 1, 33, and 38 yards. Daniels already was second on Tech’s rushing list for a game with 240 yards against North Carolina on Nov. 15. Only Eddie Lee Ivery’s 356 yards against Air Force in 1978 is higher in the Yellow Jackets’ record book.

Stokes, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., led the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 record on the week, including wins over William & Mary and Florida A&M to earn the Atlanta Marriott NW Holiday Invitational title and over Florida State in Tech’s conference opener. It was the first conference opener that Georgia Tech has won since the 1994-95 season. She earned MVP honors for her performance in the tournament, including recording her third double-double of the year and sixth of her career against William & Mary. She also extended her double-figures scoring streak to a league-leading 20 games, averaging 14 points per game while pulling down almost seven rebounds per contest.
