Cross Country Women Place Second; Men Third In Clemson Invitational

ATLANTA (Oct. 16) – Georgia Tech’s women’s and men’s cross country teams placed second and third, respectively, Saturday at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. Senior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) was the collegiate women’s winner and second overall in 17:51, as Tech placed five runners among the top 12 collegiate finishers.

Megesi, who won her third career collegiate title, was followed by the freshmen trio of Amy Dock (Charlotte, N.C.) who was seventh in 18:32, Aenslee Tanner (Portsmouth, N.H.), who was 10th in 18:38 and Katie Griffin (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who was 11th in 18:42. Junior Sara Pardue (Aurora, Co.) was 12th in 18:45 as Tech finished second by a slim 40-41 score to host Clemson.

Senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio), who placed third among the collegiate runners in 25:19 and was fourth overall on the day, paced the men’s team. He was followed by sophomore Joey Zins (Atlanta, Ga.), who was 10th in 26:07, junior Brent Johnson (Fayetteville, Ga.), who was 14th in 26:24, Giovanni Pipia (Acworth, Ga.) who was 17th in 26:47 and senior Dan Brin (Lawrenceville, Ga.), who was 21st in 27:09. The Jackets ended the meet with 65 points, and trailed only winner UNC-Charlotte (33 pts.) and Clemson (34 pts.).

Tech will next ready for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship meet, which will be held on November 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
