THE FLATS – After a week off, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to the trail at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday night. The women’s 6K will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 6:40 p.m.
The race will take place at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course, the site of the 2012 ACC Cross Country Championships. The Jackets, along with three ACC schools will get an early look at the course as Florida State, Wake Forest and host Virginia Tech will also be in attendance.
The Yellow Jackets will run among stiff competition as the Seminoles’ men’s team is ranked No. 10 and the women are No. 3 in the country. The Virginia Tech men’s team is receiving votes as well.
Rounding out the field is Bluefield State (M&W), Charleston (W), Concord (M&W), Davidson (M), East Tennessee State (M&W) and King (M&W).
In their last time out, the Yellow Jackets placed second in both the men’s and women’s races at the UGA Invite. The men were paced by sophomore Jeremy Greenwald who crossed the line sixth overall in 26:49.68. The women were led by sophomore Katie Townsend who took sixth with a personal-best time of 17:30.80.
