Cross Country Travels To Upstate Invitational

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech cross country team travels to Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday for the Upstate Invitational. The women’s 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the men’s 8K starts at 9:30 a.m.  Heading into the meet, the men’s team is ranked No. 7 in the South Region in the most recent USTFCCCA poll.

Along with Georgia Tech, three of the 17 schools competing on Saturday are ranked in the top 15 of the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings. On the women’s side, Wake Forest is fifth in the Southeast Region; while the Wake Forest men are 11th in the Southeast Region, North Florida is 10th in the South Region and Appalachian State is 13th in the Southeast Region.

Joining Upstate, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, North Florida and Appalachian State, the Upstate Invitational field consists of:  Brevard, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Lees-McRae, Newberry, Presbyterian College, Spartanburg Methodist, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford.

The Yellow Jacket men’s and women’s cross country team continued their early-season success last weekend with strong performances at the Florida Mountain Dew Invitational.  The men’s team won its second meet of the season with 41 points, 10 points in front of second-place finisher Florida (51). The Georgia Tech women placed second out of 13 teams with 67 total points.

Tech benefitted from standout individual performances from seniors Jeremy Greenwald and Kelly Meyer. Greenwald’s career-best time of 24:17 secured first place in the men’s 8K collegiate competition. Kelly Meyer paced the women’s team with a 5K time of 17:36 and finished seventh out of 146 collegiate runners.
