ATLANTA – Georgia Tech will travel to South Bend, Ind. on Friday, September 30, to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. The women’s 5K race will start at 4:15 p.m. and the men’s 5 mile race will follow at 5:00 p.m. Both teams will face tough competition in the Blue Division as seven ranked teams will be in attendance for the men’s 25-team event and nine ranked teams will be in the women’s 24-team race.
The men’s Blue Division will feature three top-ten squads in No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 6 Notre Dame, and No. 7 Arizona, along with No. 14 Michigan, No. 18 Florida State, No. 26 Colorado State, and No. 30 Butler.
The women’s Blue Division will also feature three top-ten teams in No. 3 Notre Dame No. 5 Michigan, and No. 10 Arkansas. Other top-30 teams participating in the Invitational will be No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 18 Butler, No. 20 Illinois, No. 24 Missouri, No. 28 Florida State, and No. 29 Michigan State.
The Jackets have posted strong results in their first two meets of the season. The women’s team has finished first and third in the Mercer Atlanta Cross Country Meet and FSU Invitational, respectively, while the men have placed second and sixth in the same two competitions. Paul Specht and Nazar Trilisky have been the top runners for the Jackets on the men’s side, with both finishing in the top six at the Mercer Meet. The women have been led by Nisha Kurian and Elena Linn in their two meets this season. Kurian has one top-10 and one top-20 finish on the year while Linn placed 5th at the Mercer meet and finished 25th at FSU.
After the Notre Dame Invitational, both teams will be back in action on October 15 as they will compete in the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
