Cross Country Set For NCAA South Regionals

The Flats – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete in the 2014 NCAA South Regional Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.  The women’s 6K is scheduled to begin 9 a.m., followed by the men’s 10K competition at 10 a.m.

As one of nine NCAA regional competitions, the meet will ultimately determine the field for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. The top two teams from each region will advance, as well as the top four individuals not on a qualifying team.

 

In the women’s race, Florida State and Vanderbilt are ranked No. 13 and No. 16 in the nation, respectively.  Florida State’s men’s team is also ranked nationally, coming in at No. 21 overall.

 

The Georgia Tech men’s team is ranked fifth in the latest USTFCCCA South Region poll and the women are ranked seventh.

 

Ten members of the Georgia Tech men’s team will compete among 206 runners from 27 teams.  The women’s team sends 10 members to run among 245 competitors from 31 teams.

 

In the teams’ most recent action, the Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams placed 10th and 11th, respectively, at the ACC Championships in Earlysville, Va.

 

Kelly Meyer was the top finisher for the women’s team, running the 6K in a time of 21:25 for 44th place.  The Georgia Tech men were paced by Jeremy Greenwald, who logged a time 24:18 for 34th place in the 8K.
