THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete Friday in the 2013 NCAA South Regionals at Harry Pritchett Running Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The men’s 8k race will start at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the women’s 6k competition at 12:15 p.m. ET.
The Georgia Tech men’s team is ranked sixth in the latest USTFCCCA South Region poll and the women are ranked 12th in the South Region poll entering the meet.
Nine members of the Georgia Tech men’s team will compete among 237 runners from 27 teams. The women’s team sends 10 members to run among 255 competitors from 35 teams.
Last season, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams finished fourth and 16th, respectively, at the 2012 NCAA South Region Championships. The men’s fourth-place finish was their best finish since 2001.
In the teams’ most recent action, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams earned ninth and 12th places, respectively, at the 2013 ACC Championships at Beeson Park hosted by Wake Forest. The men’s team was led by Brandon Lasater and the women were paced by Katie Townsend.
