NEW ORLEANS – The Georgia Tech cross country teams were honored for their work in the classroom this week, as both the men’s and women’s squads were named to the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

Overall, the men’s team accumulated a 3.20 GPA during the fall term, while the women’s squad had a 3.29 GPA during the fall semester. The men’s team was one of eight ACC schools to win the awards, while the women were one of eight ACC institutions to win.

On the women’s side, Villanova was named the Scholar Athlete Team of the Year, while Oklahoma State earned the same honor on the men’s side.
