The Georgia Tech cross country team will travel down to Tallahassee, Fla. this weekend to compete in the Florida State Invitational which will take place at Miccosukee Greenway Park. The men’s 8K race will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday while the women’s 5K race will follow at 8:10 a.m.
The Tech men will face two nationally ranked teams in No. 12 Florida State and No. 21 Florida while the women will compete against Division I foes Clemson, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Other teams competing in the meet will be Bethune-Cookman, Embry-Riddle, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Jacksonville, North Florida, Saint Leo, Tampa, Troy State, University of Central Florida and Webber International (women only).
The men were runners-up at the Mercer Atlanta Cross Country Meet last weekend and were led by Paul Specht who finished fourth overall. Specht will be joined by senior Adam Jones, sophomore Nazar Trilisky, and freshmen James Taylor, Casey Gramling, Matt Kinsel, and Greg Johnson.
The women’s squad claimed the title at the Mercer Meet and will look to continue their early season success. Jenny Sims placed fourth overall in the 4K with a time of 13:29.56 and was one of four Jackets to finish in the top 10. Tech will also look for strong performances from juniors Ann Armsby and Mary Chind, and sophomores Elena Linn and Nisha Kurian.
This meet will serve as a warm-up to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships which will take place on the same course on October 31.
