THE FLATS — Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country participated in the 12th annual Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational on Saturday afternoon, placing fourth and fifth on the day, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets saw four freshman work into their top-five finishers, including Kristin Fairey, Gabrielle Gusmerotti, Corson Teasley and Sam Costa.

For the women, Charlotte Stephens led the team to their fifth-place finish, posting a 18:53.00 time for an eighth-place time. Freshman Fairey finished three back from Stephens, recording a 19:06.50 time.

Finishing 26th, freshman Gusmerotti had a fine outing, finishing at 19:50.00, before Erin Gant (19:52.30 — 27th) and Rhiannon Flanagan-Rosario (20:05.20 — 33rd) rounded out Tech’s top five.

The men ran well in a tight group that served them well enough to get 93 points and a fourth-place polling. Matt McBrien paced the Jackets with a 26:15.10, 12th-place finish, while Ryan Miller (26:39.80) finished just six spots back at 18th.

Freshmen Teasley and Costa were next for the Jackets, finishing 20th (26:39.80) and 24th (27:15.90), respectively. Isaac Penman completed Tech’s top five with a 27:54.50 time that was good enough for 31st.

Georgia Tech cross country returns to action on Friday, Oct. 13 in the Alabama Crimson Classic.
