LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Georgia Tech women’s and men’s cross country team finished 21st and 25th, respectively, among some of the top competition in the nation at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday.
Sophomore Katie Townsend crossed the line first for the Tech women in the 5K at Tom Sawyer State Park with a time of 18:00 for 98th place out of 267 runners. On the men’s side, Alec Clifford logged the top time for Tech (25:30) to finish 127th in the field of 255 competitors.
Townsend was followed by Mary Kate DuBard (130th, 18:13.6), Katie Vance (133rd, 18:13.7), Carolina Kissel (157th, 18:23.1) and Kaylee Isaacs (18:23.3) as the top five finishers for Tech. The women’s team averaged a time of 1:31:14 and totaled 613 points.
Obiandu Igwe logged a season-best time of 25:39 for a 138th finish, followed by Jeremy Greenwald (139th, 25:40), Doug Black (172nd, 26:01.0) and Eric Powers (174th, 26:01.9) to round out the top-five Yellow Jacket runners. The men’s team averaged a time of 2:08:53 and totaled 680 points.
No. 12 Arizona took home first place on the women’s side with 71 points and No. 8 Iona placed first on the men’s side (47 points). Elvin Kibet (Arizona) crossed the line first for the women with a time of 16:51, and her teammate Lawi Lalang had the top performance for the men’s 8K (22:33).
The Jackets are back in action Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala at 8:30 a.m.
