Cross Country Concludes Day at Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Georgia Tech’s cross country team faced its toughest field of the season as it competed in the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon. The top finishers for the Jackets were Nazar Trilisky on the men’s side and Nisha Kurian for the women.

Seven of the teams competing in the men’s 5 mile race were nationally ranked, including No. 7 Arizona who won the title. Host and sixth-ranked Notre Dame finished second while unranked Florida placed third. On the women’s side, No. 5 Michigan finished first in the 5K race with No. 20 Illinois placing second and third-ranked Notre Dame rounding out the top three. Georgia Tech’s men finished 25th and the women 21st.

For the second time this season, Trilisky finished as the top Jacket with a time of 25:46 while junior David Herren (26:29) was second for Tech. Freshmen Matt Kinsel and Will Bonn placed third and fourth for the Ramblin’ Wreck, and junior Paul Specht rounded out the top five. Other competitors for the Jackets were freshmen Greg Johnson and James Taylor, along with senior Rob Kuhn and sophomore Masato Kan.

The women were paced by sophomore Nisha Kurian, who finished as the top Tech runner for the second consecutive meet with a time of 18:24. Sophomore Elena Linn (18:30) and junior Mary Chind (18:34) were second and third for the Jackets with junior Jenny Sims and sophomore Maria Hampton finishing fourth and fifth for Tech. Sophomore Emily Yandle, junior Ann Armsby, freshman Katina Zuganelis, and senior Misty Dirksen also competed in the Invitational for the Jackets. Catherine Spoth and Ashley Keck raced in the junior varsity division and placed 14th and 31st, respectively.

Georgia Tech will be back in action on October 15 as they will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the Chili Pepper Invitational.
