Tanner Cotman is in his first season as quality control (cornerbacks) at Georgia Tech.
Cotman came to The Flats after spending two seasons (2022-23) as a defensive quality control coach at Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke. In his second season at Duke (2023), Cotman worked under current Georgia Tech defensive co110ordinator Tyler Santucci. The Blue Devils had the ACC’s top-ranked scoring defense in 2023, allowing just 19.0 points per game, which was good for 16th nationally. Duke also ranked among the nation’s top 50 in rushing defense, passing defense, total defense, tackles for loss, third-down defense, fourth-down defense and red-zone defense.
Before his two seasons at Duke, Cotman spent one season (2021) as safeties coach and video coordinator at Norfolk State. He also worked with safeties as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan in 2020.
Cotman spent seven seasons on the football staff at his alma mater, Old Dominion, first as a student assistant (2013-16), then as a graduate assistant (2017-19). He primarily worked with safeties and linebackers at ODU, while earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2016 and a master’s degree in coaching education in 2020.
