Thirty-seven-year coaching veteran Jim Chaney joined Georgia Tech football’s staff in 2022 as special assistant to head coach Geoff Collins.
Chaney most recently spent the 2021 season as an offensive analyst for the National Football League’s New Orleans Saints. However, 34 of his 37 years in coaching have come at the collegiate level, including as offensive coordinator at Cal State Fullerton (1988-92), Purdue (2002-05), Tennessee (2009-12; 2019-21), Arkansas (2013-14), Pitt (2015) and Georgia (2016-18). His coaching resume also includes stints at Western Michigan, Wyoming and with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams. He served as Tennessee’s interim head coach in 2012. During his second stint at Tennessee, he worked with current Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Chip Long and quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke.
Chaney played collegiately as a defensive lineman at Central Missouri. He graduated from UCM in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
