ATLANTA – Two-a-day practices at Georgia Tech are almost over, which means classes begin soon (Monday) and the August 28th season opener against Jacksonville State is just 15 days away.
The Yellow Jackets practiced twice Wednesday – full pads in the morning and shells in the afternoon. The Tech players caught a break on the Atlanta weather with temperatures in the mid- to high 70’s and cloudy skies.
Tech spent two periods Wednesday morning working on 3rd-and-5 situations. Back-up safety Troy Garside intercepted a Bryce Dykes pass as one of the highlights. Later in practice, senior quarterback Calvin Booker connected with sophomore Demaryius Thomas on a 35-yard touchdown completion.
On the injury front, sophomore quarterback Josh Nesbitt injured his shoulder when a teammate fell on the shoulder during drills. Nesbitt was held out of Wednesday’s afternoon practice and is listed as day-to-day. Also out is senior All-American candidate Andrew Gardner, the starting left tackle, who is also day-to-day.
There was some good news regarding injuries. A-back Greg Smith and offensive linemen A.J. Smith and Alex Paquette all returned to action.
The Yellow Jackets will practice once on Thursday (3 p.m.) before holding their final double session Friday (9:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.). Saturday’s practice will be in Bobby Dodd Stadium at 9:30 a.m.
