Jan. 16, 2008

ATLANTA – Five members of the Georgia Tech Football Team will participate in senior all-star games as Gary Guyton will play in the 83rd annual East-West Shrine Game and Durant Brooks, Tashard Choice, Darrell Robertson and Philip Wheeler were all selected for the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl.

The East-West Shrine game will be played on Jan. 19, 2008, at John O’Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas. It will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 7:00 p.m. (EST). Among his teammates on the East roster: Virginia Tech linebacker Vince Hall, Georgia running back Thomas Brown and Boston College safety Jamie Silva.

Every year since 1925, the East-West Shrine Game has been played to help raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children, an international network of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals that provide care for children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate – all at no charge. To date, the game has helped raise more than $14 million and informed millions of people about the mission of this extraordinary philanthropy. The 82nd East-West Shrine Game in 2007 included 37 players who were selected in the NFL Draft this past April, while an additional 51 players were later signed as free agent.

The 59th annual Senior Bowl will be played Jan. 26, 2008, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m. (EST). The game and its week-long practice sessions will be televised live by the NFL Network.

Currently, over 575 former Senior Bowl players are active in the NFL, a group of marquee performers that includes each of the last two NFL MVP’s in running backs Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks and LaDainian Tomlinson of the Chargers, each of the last two NFL Defensive Players of the Year in linebackers Jason Taylor of the Dolphins and Brian Urlacher of the Bears, future Hall of Famers, 24 players who made last year’s NFL Pro Bowl and many of the league’s premier rookie stars of 2007.

In addition to featuring the nation’s best NFL draft prospects and hosting over 800 coaches and scouts from the NFL, other Senior Bowl 2008 game week highlights will include player practices that will be held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the fourth straight year.

Practices will once again be free and open to the public, offering fans the unique opportunity to see those top draft prospects in action, as well as the hundreds of National Football League coaches and scouts in Mobile during Senior Bowl Week.
