THE FLATS – Georgia Tech basketball coach Brian Gregory announced Tuesday that sophomore forward Robert Carter, Jr., has been granted a release to transfer from the Yellow Jackets basketball program.

“I would like to thank Robert for his time here at Georgia Tech, he has represented our program well,” said Gregory. “Although this is disappointing, we wish him the very best in his continued career.

“Transferring has become commonplace; it is now part of the culture and fabric of the college basketball landscape. You have to move on and keep building. Our returning players are poised to have exceptional seasons and we are excited about our incoming class and their ability to positively impact our program.”

Carter, Jr., missed Tech’s first 10 ACC games last season due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. A Dean’s List student in the spring semester, Carter, Jr., finished the 2013-14 season with averages of 11.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game overall. In 54 career games at Tech, Carter, Jr., averaged 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds.
