Burkhardt and Prystaj Lead Jackets on Day One of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – Junior Tony Burkhardt and senior Laurissa Prystaj broke school records on the three- and one-meter springboards with NCAA Zone qualifying marks of 387.95 and 305.95, respectively, to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

No. 15 Florida State leads the men’s competition with a score of 438, followed by Tech (306), Western Kentucky (209) and Florida Atlantic (136).

The 16th-ranked Seminoles lead the women’s meet with a score of 363, Rice (175), WKU (172.50), Tech (164), FAU (145.50), Gardner-Webb (83), Miami (81) and New Orleans (28).

Junior Vesna Stojanovska clocked a season-best time of 4:55.52 in the women’s 500-yard freestyle to finish in third-place for the Jackets. In the men’s 500 free, senior Sam Morgan finished third (4:29.61), redshirt freshman Chris Ewald finished fourth (4:29.81), sophomore Rob Miller fifth (4:34.49) and junior Ofer Finkler seventh (4:39.51) all with season-best times.

Junior Ryan Bishop posted a time of 1:54.10 in the men’s 200 individual medley to finish in fourth place for the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Mauricio Sousa tallied a seventh-place finish for Tech in the men’s 200 IM with a season-best time of 1:55.29.

Senior Teemu Kettunen clocked a season-best time of 21.06 in the men’s 50 free to finish in seventh place for the Rambling Wreck.

The men’s 200 free relay team of Jason Howard, Ryan Riebesell, Sousa and Kettunen swam a season-best time of 1:22.62 to touch the wall in second place. The women’s 200 free relay team of Natanya Harper, Mari McLeod, Katie McGraw and Caroline Jones finished fifth with a season-best time of 1:37.80.

Sophomores Evan Stowers and Michael Bennett finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Jackets on the men’s three-meter boards with scores of 327.90 (NCAA Zone mark) and 282.15.

The women’s 400 medley relay team of Jones, Alison Walker, Meghan DeVinney and Harper clocked a season-best time of 3:55.73 to finish fifth. The men’s 400 medley relay team of Jason Bourgeois, Alex Williams, Kettunen and Howard finished third with a season-best time of 3:24.43.
