Braun, Stewart Named to All-ACC Academic Football Team

Jan. 31, 2018

THE FLATS — Georgia Tech football’s Parker Braun and Brad Stewart were named to the 2017 all-Atlantic Coast Conference academic football team on Wednesday.

The all-ACC academic team recognizes the conference’s top performers on the field and in the classroom. To be considered, a student-athlete must own a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average for his academic career. Athletic achievements for the most recent season were also considered when selecting the 68-member team from a pool of 144 nominees.

Both Braun, a sophomore guard, and Stewart, a junior wide receiver, were named to the team for the second year in a row.

Braun was named second-team all-ACC in 2017 after starting all 11 games of the season at left guard. The 6-3, 280-pound sophomore anchored an offensive front that helped pave the way for Georgia Tech to rush for 307.4 yards per game last season, good for tops in the ACC and fifth nationally. He was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after taking 22 defenders to the ground as the Yellow Jackets ran for 436 yards in a 35-17 win over Pitt on Sept. 23. Last season, he was one of only five true freshmen on the all-ACC academic football team after earning freshman all-America recognition on the field. He majors in literature, media and communication.

Stewart also started all 11 games for the Yellow Jackets at wideout in 2017, ranking second on the team in receptions (four) and third in receiving yards (99), good for a whopping 24.8 yards per catch. He also ranked 34th nationally last season in punt return-average at 6.6 yards per return. For his career, Stewart has caught 30 passes for 574 yards (19.1 avg.) and averaged 8.5 yards per punt return. In addition to being named to the all-ACC academic football team as a sophomore in 2016, he was also named first-team academic all-district.

Georgia Tech football opens the 2018 season on Sept. 1 at home versus Alcorn State. The Yellow Jackets host six games at Bobby Dodd Stadium in ’18, including ACC contests versus Clemson (Sept. 22), Duke (Oct. 13), Miami (Nov. 10) and Virginia (Nov. 17) — all teams that earned bowl berths in 2017.
