Brad Sheehan to Take Red-Shirt Year

Nov. 7, 2006

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech basketball player Brad Sheehan, a freshman from Latham, N.Y., has elected to red-shirt this season, head coach Paul Hewitt announced Tuesday.

Sheehan, a 6-11, 220-pound center, scored 1,014 points in three seasons at Shaker High School, leading his team to two Suburban Council league titles while earning all-league honors twice. He averaged 21.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and six blocks per game as a senior.

“Brad has demonstrated a high level of skill and athletic ability during pre-season practice,” Hewitt said Tuesday. “We both feel that with increased strength, he will be a major contributor to this program in the 2007-08 season.”

Sheehan played 11 minutes in Tech’s 96-52 exhibition victory over Morehouse College last Saturday. He scored three points, all from the free throw line, and took two rebounds.

The 21st-ranked Yellow Jackets open their 2006-07 season Friday against Elon. Tip-off will be approximately 8:30 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, following the women’s game against Mercer.
