THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior swimmer Robert Borowicz was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Third Team, it was released Thursday.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team in May, Borowicz, who was also a 2016-17 All-ACC Academic Team selection, graduated with a degree in computer science this past May with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. A 2015-16 CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention selection, he was also a L.W. “Chip” Roberts Award recipient this year.

In the pool this year, Borowicz competed for the Jackets in the 50 free, 100 back, 200 back and medley relay events. The senior turned in a new career-best time of 48.18 in the 100 back at the 2017 ACC Championships. He was also a member of the 200 free relay team that turned in the fastest time of the season for the Jackets at 1:19.79 at the ACC Championships. He posted the fourth-fastest time for the Jackets this season in both the 100 back (48.18) and the 200 back (1:46.31) events, both of which were NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times. Borowicz also recorded the fifth-fastest time on the year for Tech in the 50 free (20.50). A contributor to the third-fastest time for the Jackets on the year in both the 200 free relay (1:21.45) and the 200 medley relay (1:29.42) units, Borowicz won the 200 back event (1:50.24) and took second overall in the 50 back (23.54) at the tri-meet with Cincinnati and FAU. He also finished runner-up in the 50 free (21.12) in the ACC dual meet versus Notre Dame. At the ACC Championships, he recorded two top-25 finishes in the 100 back (22nd) and 200 back (25th).

Borowicz is the first Jacket male swimmer to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since Noah Copeland was named to the first team in 2008.
