Blog Entry #8: January 24 By Junior Kelly Eppinger

Hey Tech Fans!

We are a few weeks into the semester now and things are going pretty well. They will be GREAT once our new stadium is completed and are allowed to begin practice on it!!! It’s a very exciting thing to be able to be a part of. Once we are able to start practicing on our field we will be able to have some later practices under our new lights. We did not have lights on Glenn Field so it is going to be a lot of fun when we are able to play some night games. Also, because of the lights we will be able to now host post season games like the ACC and NCAA Tournaments! Practicing in general so far has been going really well. The team has really been gelling and working well together and it makes practices pretty exciting and just shows us what we have to bring to the table this season. I know I personally can’t wait to start playing games. Yea it’s fun to scrimmage ourselves but there is nothing compared to the victory over another team especially rivals!

Outside of practice everyone of course has school work and other things to tend to. Many of my classes are really getting started with homework and quizzes and such so that’s what my week day nights consist of. When weekends come around all I do is sleep after practice or just relax.

Last weekend was a little different. Friday night a fairly large group of GT student athletes helped out with the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics. Our entire team was there helping out along with the baseball team, some football players, tennis players and a few other athletes.

We escorted the Olympian’s into the auditorium and got to sit with them for the Ceremony. After the speakers and lighting of the torch the Ceremony ended and the dance began! Each year after the Opening Ceremony they hold a dance for all the Olympians and whoever else attending the event would like to hang around. And I just want to say hanging around was one of the best things I’ve done! Our team had a blast dancing with friends and Olympians to everything from rap to the Cha-Cha Slide to the Macarena.

The dance ended around 10:00 and on the way home my car stopped for a late night snack and got McFlurries. We found out later the other car stopped for a snack as well when they saw the “Hot `n Ready” sign on at Krispy Kreme!! We have a great time together on and off the field and its going to be such a great season! We know this and the only way for you to find out is to come out to our games and watch us play! See you there!
