Blog Entry #10: February 14 By Sophomore Jessica Weaver

Feb. 14, 2009

Howdy Fans!!!

So this past weekend we kicked off the 2009 season with two big wins over Georgia State on Saturday, then finished up on Sunday with a split with Furman. On Saturday, everyone had the first game jitters, but with our wins of 8-1 and 7-1 no one could even tell. People were hitting like crazy and making awesome defensive plays left and right. In the first game we did not hesitate to score. With two outs in the top of the first, Whitney Haller came up with her first home run of the season as well as setting the new ACC career home run record. I must say that without a doubt it set the tone for the rest of that game. Her home run was followed by several amazing hits, including Tiffany Johnson’s first home run of her career.

Along with the senior leadership, our freshman class stepped up to play too. Kate Kuzma got her first home run while others such as Kelsi Weseman and Jessica Sinclair stepped up with big hits as well.

Everyone was soo… excited to finally take all the hard work from practice and put it into the games. Since Christmas break we have all been working so hard six out of the seven days of the week to get better offensively, defensively and mentally. This year we have a young team, but I feel it is a great one. Recently we made a list of our team goals for the season ranging from the small stuff all the way to winning championships and I feel that with the team chemistry that we have on and off the field we will be successful.

In the upcoming weeks our schedule is filled with top ranked teams across the country, such as the University of Florida and Louisiana Lafayette. I feel that playing these games will prepare us for conference and post season play. This year’s roster is filled with not only talent, but with people that see the team before themselves. I believe this is a key factor in being a winning team. I am very excited about this season and what our team can accomplish. I hope to see and meet all the Tech fans that come and support us.

p.s. Our new stadium is going to be absolutely amazing!!!

Thanks for all of your support. Go Jackets!!!
