Bishop, Depland and Miller Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Swimming standout Ryan Bishop, track star Brandy Depland along with tennis superstar Kristi Miller were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 31, 2005.

Bishop, a sophomore from Signal Mountain, Tenn., tallied three first-place finishes for the 25th-ranked Yellow Jackets against crosstown foe Emory on Sunday afternoon. The Signal Mountain, Tenn., native posted a season-best time of 3:59.40 to win the 400-yard individual medley. Bishop also captured the 100 and 200 breaststroke events for Tech with times of 58.79 and 2:06.54, respectively.

Depland, a junior from Katy, Texas, tallied a pair of top-two finishes for the 15th-ranked Tech women’s track and field team at the Clemson Invitational last weekend. The Katy, Texas, native set an indoor lifetime-best mark of 42’1.50″ to win the triple jump and record her first NCAA Provisional mark of the indoor season. Depland then registered a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18’11.75″.

Miller, a freshman from Marysville, Mich., led the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team to victories over Georgia State and No. 41 Baylor. She went 2-0 in both singles and doubles to lead the Jackets. Miller partnered with Alison Silverio and clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victory over ninth-ranked Zuzana Cerna and Daniela Covello of Baylor. The freshman defeated No. 92 Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor in straight sets to clinch the match for Tech. Miller is currently 25-3 in singles and 16-5 in doubles as a freshman and her 25 wins places her sixth for most wins in a season at Georgia Tech.
