Bergmann Continues VNL Competition with Brazil

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball all-American Julia Bergmann has joined Brazil’s national volleyball team for summer competition, currently competing in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League. The Yellow Jacket standout has continued to make an impact internationally at the game’s highest level, starting for Brazil as one of the top producers on the squad and one of just two active NCAA players throughout the VNL encompassed of 16 countries.

Following a successful first week of competition, Bergmann was a key contributor once more as Brazil took on Turkey on June 16. The rising star aided her squad to a 3-1 win as she totaled eight kills and four digs while leading the team on serve receive (14).

“Whoever plays alongside Gabi will always be the target of the opponent’s serve,” said Bergmann following the match. “I knew they were going to focus on me from the moment I walked in, but I was prepared for that. That’s what I always train. Today’s game was very good. This was the first time we played with the team that was on the court most of the time. Today was a great debut, but we still have a lot of championship ahead of us.”

The all-American followed with eight more kills and a pair of digs while standing firm on serve receive once more against Italy on June 18, although Brazil came up short, falling 3-1.
