Benito, Rakitt Close Out Bulldog Scramble With Wins

Athens, Ga. – Carlos Benito and Nathan Rakitt each won singles matches Sunday on the final day of the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, each finishing out the weekend with 3-1 records.

Benito, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, defeated his first nationally-ranked opponent, No. 29 Chris Simpson of LSU, 7-5, 6-3. Rakitt, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., downed Oklahoma’s Austin Siegel in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Benito finished the fall season with an 11-7 singles mark, while Rakitt compiled a 9-6 record.

Fiegel, a freshman from Alachua, Fla., fell to 1-3 for the weekend after a straight-set loss, 6-3, 6-2, to Oklahoma’s Alex Ghilea.

Meanwhile, Fiegel and Rakitt absorbed their second doubles loss of the weekend, 6-4, to Vandy’s Mason Vierra and Pen Binet. The Tech tandem finished the fall 4-4 in doubles.
