March 21, 2007

ATLANTA – Gani Lawal of Norcross High School, fresh off leading his team to the Georgia class AAAAA state championship, has named Mr. Georgia Basketball by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, while Maurice Miller of Raleigh-Egypt High School in Memphis, Tenn., was named Mr. Basketball for the class AAA level in Tennessee.

Both players have signed basketball letters-of-intent to attend Georgia Tech, and will enroll in August.

Lawal, a 6-9 senior forward, will be honored at the annual Naismith Awards Banquet on April 5 at the Georgia World Congress Center. He averaged 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game while shooting 73 percent from the field. His 31-point, 13-rebound effort led the Blue Devils to the 2007 AAAAA state championship, the school’s second consecutive title.

Lawal also has been named to play for the East team for the McDonald’s All-American game on March 28 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky.

Miller, a 6-3 point guard, led Raleigh-Egypt to a stellar 29-5 overall mark and the Class AAA Region 7 championship in 2007. He averaged 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals for Raleigh-Egypt this season. Miller has been named to play for the Red Team in the Memphis All-Star Classic, which precedes the annual Nike Hoop Summit on April 7 in Memphis, Tenn.
