Basketball Annual Intrasquad Scrimmages Set for Saturday

ATLANTA (Oct. 20) – Georgia Tech’s basketball teams will tip off the 1999-2000 season Saturday, Oct. 23, with Hoopfest, featuring scrimmages by the Yellow Jackets’ men’s and women’s basketball teams at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald’s Center. The event is sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, formerly the Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center.

Each team will stage intrasquad scrimmages as part of the festivities, which begin at 5 p.m. Contests for great prizes will be held between scrimmages, including one lucky fan shooting for $5,000. All the players will remain afterward for autographs and photos with the fans.

At 4 p.m., the public is invited to select season ticket seats from the few that remain. Seats are based on priority and giving level. For more details on season tickets, call (404) 894-5414.

The games will be the first public appearance for this year’s Yellow Jacket teams. The men, who finished 15-16 last year and went to the NIT, are led by senior forwards Jason Collier and Jason Floyd and junior center Alvin Jones. The women, 13-14 last year, are led by guards Danielle Donehew and Niesha Butler.

Admission is free to the event, but donations to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will be accepted.
