ATLANTA – Senior Roger Anderson clinched the match with a 6-1 win in the third set at No. 1 singles as No. 23 Georgia Tech (12-6) defeated Middle Tennessee State (5-14), 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Jackets fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. The lone winner for Tech was the 19th-ranked duo of Anderson and Scott Schnugg in the No. 1 position as they defeated Dan Klemetz and Brandon Allan by a score of 8-3.
Tech tied the score at 1-1 with an easy victory at No. 2 singles by 79th-ranked Scott Schnugg, who defeated Kirk Jackson 6-1, 6-3. West Nott then followed Schnugg’s win with a 7-5, 7-6(3) victory in the No. 4 position against MTSU’s Michael Staniak, and Joao Menano was the final singles winner for Tech on the afternoon as he defeated Greg Pollack in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5).
Anderson, ranked 26th by the ITA, dropped the first set of his singles match against 11th-ranked Klemetz in a tiebreaker, 7-6(2), before picking up matching 6-1 set scores in the second and third sets to earn the victory for the Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action when they travel to Clemson on April 9th for an Atlantic Coast Conference match set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
