Anderson and Stauss Lead Tech Women's Tennis on Day Two at ITA Southern Regionals

ATLANTA – Sixth-seeded Kelly Anderson and freshman Lindsey Stauss stayed alive in the “A” single bracket to lead the Yellow Jackets on day two of the ITA Southern Regional Championships, being held at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The sophomore Anderson defeated Ole Miss’ Virginia Tomatis 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinals, set to begin on Sunday morning. Stauss dropped the 14th seed, Marlieke Jager of South Alabama, 6-4, 7-6(4) to move on to the quarterfinals as well. Sophomore Lyndsay Shosho earned a win against Florida’s Nina Suvak, 6-4, 7-6, and Alison Silverio downed South Alabama’s Andrea Kurekova, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, to advance to the second round in the “A” singles consolations.

In doubles play, the No. 3-4 seed Anderson and Sekita Grant posted an 8-3 win over Ole Miss’ Harboe and Ladyman in the first round of “A” doubles competition, but fell 9-8(6) to Alabama’s Minor and Koppelle to be eliminated from play. Maria Nieto and Shosho posted two wins in the bracket though, and will play their quarterfinal match against Stephenson and Bentley of Alabama on Sunday afternoon.

The final doubles win of the day came as Stauss teamed with FSU’s Cercone in the “B” doubles bracket. They posted an 8-4 win against Troy State’s Alarcon and Jones, but fell to the No. 2 seed Serret and Rudman of Mississippi State, 8-3, in the second round.

The tournament will continue on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. and go through Monday afternoon. All results can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com at the conclusion of play tomorrow.
