Charlotte, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior Brandon Alston and sophomore Jose Alvarado, as well as head coach Josh Pastner, represented the Yellow Jackets at the Atlantic Coast Conference’s annual Operation Basketball media day on Wednesday at the Spectrum Center, where more than 400 media from the ACC area and around the nation attended.
Alston, a 6-5 guard from Vienna, Va., is a graduate transfer who returns for his second season with the Yellow Jackets after averaging 5.4 points per game and hitting 35.6 percent of his three-point tries while playing all 32 games. Alvarado, a 6-foot point guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., who missed the last month of the season with a dislocated elbow is the Jackets’ highest returning scorer at 12.7 points per game.

Head coach Josh Pastner enters his third season on The Flats, looking to lift the Yellow Jackets after a 13-19 season a year ago. Tech is four weeks into its pre-season practice, with 16 days remaining until the Jackets open the season Nov. 9 against Lamar. But first, the Yellow Jackets host an exhibition game Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. against Division II Florida Tech.
“We’re in year three and I really like our team,” Pastner said. “Obviously we’re still building the right way, and I believe in our vision of how we want to get there and how Georgia Tech wants it to be done and what our — obviously our goals is to be knocking on the doors to be in that NCAA Tournament and all those good things.
“But we still take it one day at a time. I’ve got the two young men, to my left Brandon Alston and Jose to my right, helping us get to where we need to get to. And we’re still in a situation where it’s important for our team and our program that when we’re on the floor that we make sure that we take care of the basketball, that we don’t beat ourselves so we’re really good defensively the way we cut, how hard we cut, all those type of things that go with that, that we control.”
