ATLANTA – The ABC television network has announced a portion of its college football broadcast schedule for 2001, and Georgia Tech’s season finale against Georgia at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field will be televised by the network and kick off at 8 p.m.
It is the second Tech football game to have been chosen by ABC so far, joining the season opener against Syracuse in the Kickoff Classic at 2 p.m., Aug. 26, at East Rutherford, N.J. The game will be part of a “split-national” telecast to half the United States. The other half will see Stanford at Notre Dame.
The Yellow Jackets have five games scheduled for television among its 12 games so far, including two Thursday night games against Maryland (Oct. 11) and North Carolina (Nov. 1), which will be televised nationally on ESPN with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. ESPN has moved all of its Thursday night telecasts ahead a half hour from past years.
The fifth televised game will be at Navy, which will start at 12 noon on Sept. 8 and be aired in the Southeast on Fox Sports Net South.
In another scheduling decision, Tech has chosen to start its Sept. 1 home opener against The Citadel at 6 p.m. It will not be televised.
Times are still to be announced for the remaining six games, all of them conference tilts.
